Are you interested in tinkering? Are you annoyed that household items don't last much? Does your bike need a little care? And you don't want to be alone with all these issues? You know what to do and how to do it, but you don't have the space or tools? Are you interested in sharing your knowledge?

Come to our Open Workshop!

Why?

Repair-Cafés exist in many cities.

The idea behind is very simple: Make broken things and devices usable again with the help of people who know their way around them a little better.

But why should devices only be repaired? Maybe you already feel the desire to really understand how and why it works?

Be it a sewing machine, a common power tool, the keyboard of your laptop or any other electronic device - there is a lot to discover, to understand and to make use of. For your own custom project or for the sake of art and knowledge.

So-called hackerspaces are known for projects like these.
But don't worry: hackers are not the creepy people, who sit in gloomy basements and plan to disrupt every single computer system in the world, as many might think. They rather are creative people, who understand technology and want to make use of it in the way it was intended to be used in the first place: As an instrument for your very own ideas.

Our Open Workshop takes inspiration in all of these initiatives. And its specific goals, shape and organization is decided by its contributors.

How?

First, come and get to know the Workshop, then get in touch with other users with similar interests, or compatible needs. Bring your repair projects, new builds, or skills to share. Then we can organize workshops, and other events, in Kanthaus or the city of Wurzen. Get in touch and make a convenient appointment with our volunteers.

Equipment

We have a lot of tools so that you can start crafting:

We also have some recovered materials that can be used too. From bicycle parts, wood, and metals.

Rooms

We have a general purpose workshop, with two workstations, and a central table for larger objects or for several people to gather around it. Bicycles can be hung from the ceiling to work on them.
Next door is a smaller room dubbed the Electro workshop, dedicated to electrical and electronics. There is only one work space here. Welding station, bicycle tools and parts, wood and material storage are in other rooms. When it is not too cold, many things can be done in our garden.

Funding

Most of the current stuff comes from private donations of tools, construction leftovers, or recoveries from the trash. More expensive tools were purchased by the organization thanks to private/user money donations and other sources of financing. Take a look at our our wishlist to see if you have anything that could be better used. Otherwise, you can of course also make a financial donation within your means.

We offer what we have and what we can, expecting nothing material in return. We aim to fulfil our projects without an “exchange logic”.

Some volunteer work is provided by BUND Wurzen.

Do you belong to a company and would like to support us on a larger scale with tools and/or materials? We are particularly happy to receive items that are no longer in use - i.e. items that have been saved from being thrown away or lying around. Feel free to contact us!
